Story
Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, meets the son of an oligarch and marries him on the spur of the moment. Mikey Madison reflects on the roles that shaped their path to fame, from “Best Things” to “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” and “The Scream.” At a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker played various sexual poses with his wife, producer Samantha Kwan, to show the actors what he wanted from them. On the wall in Vegas, the character mentions “McCarran Airport.” Although Las Vegas International Airport was called McCarran International Airport for many decades, it was renamed Harry Reid International Airport in late 2021.

And I’ve seen several others
I know that making a film takes a lot of effort and writing a review takes a few minutes. Anyway, I wanted to write down my thoughts. I was looking forward to seeing this film, I liked Sean Baker’s second film, The Florida Project.
The film is too long for this story
“Anora” has a pleasant atmosphere, the actors do a good job, but I found the humor monotonous, as well as some walls that I personally broke down. Also, the Russians seemed like caricatures to me, especially the evil mother. The first part is not bad, but the second part, starting with the Armenians entering “the villa”, was funny at first, but then became boring for me.
It seems to me that the script could be better written/edited
The final scenes with Yura Borisov gave the characters depth and I started to feel something for them. Overall, it’s a good film, but I don’t want to watch it again. Check out the full program for the 62nd New York Film Festival this fall.
